Port of Baltimore Documentary Wins Industry Award of Excellence

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

"The Great Port of Baltimore: The First 300 Years," a 30-minute video documentary produced by the Port of Baltimore Tricentennial Committee and Adventure Productions, has won the highest honors in the 28th Annual Telly Awards competition, which received over 14,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents.

"The Telly Awards are right up there with the Emmys in our industry," said George Stover, president of Baltimore-based Adventure Productions. The Telly Awards honor the best local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, in addition to video and film productions and work created for the Internet.

The Port of Baltimore documentary won a Silver Telly, the highest honor.

The documentary was conceived and funded by the Tricentennial Committee, which also oversaw all aspects of its production. The Committee was created to organize and implement a yearlong celebration of the Port of Baltimore's 300th anniversary in 2006.

"I hope this award will encourage more individuals and organizations to watch this film and learn about the key role the Port of Baltimore plays - past, present and future," said Committee Chairman Helen Delich Bentley.

"The Port has a rich and colorful history," said Bentley, "and thanks to its presence, every Marylander can look forward to a brighter economic future."
